This website provides information about the research, consulting, publishing and other activities by Walter Klöpffer, born and educated in Graz, Austria.

After his studies of chemistry and his PhD at the Karl-Franzens-University in Graz, he joined the Battelle Institut e.V. Frankfurt, Germany (a daughter company of Battelle Memorial Institute, Columbus, Ohio) in 1964. He has been living in Frankfurt/M since that time. Since 1975 he is a professor for Physical Chemistry at the Johannes-Gutenberg- University in Mainz. In 1995, three years after joining C.A.U. GmbH in Dreieich, he was appointed as editor-in-chief of "The International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment”, a newly founded periodical by ecomed publishers.

After retirement in June 2003 he started as a free consultant for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and mainly performs "critical reviews" according to ISO 14040. In addition to editing the LCA journal, since 2008 with Springer publishers, he has been writing books on environmental chemicals and Life Cycle Assessment. All these activities grew out of professional duties at Battelle, C.A.U. and the lectures given at the University of Mainz.
